About Me
|
"When I grow up (read: join the work force), I'll teach French language and literature." I had thought that was where I was headed. But, instead, I started down a new and unfamiliar path because I had "environmental illness." I had to rethink and redo my eating, my exposure to pollens, grasses, chemicals, heavy metals and electromagnetic fields. I was in school, pursuing an occupational therapy degree to put on top of my Ivy league B.A. and my half-masters in Social Work. I was being pushed to think outside the box. I didn't choose it. It chose me. I practiced O.T. actively for 5 years, in Utica, N.Y. and Tarzana, CA. I loved working with the children but not in the school system and the clinic. In 1998, I seriously discovered CranioSacral Therapy, although I had been exposed before. I began taking courses in 1999 and by 2000 began a CST practice at my home office and at a holistic clinic. I also did massage, having taken a certification in that that same year. I moved though the basic Upledger curriculum fairly fast, taking CST I, II, SER I, II and Pediatric CST within 3 years. I really enjoyed the courses which could be quite challenging but were ultimately fascinating. The courses were not just a way of learning techniques but were also a way to clear oneself of past problems on both the physical and emotional level . In the Pediatric CST course, I re-experienced my own birth and learned a great deal about myself and my where I was headed in life; needless to way that personal knowledge and some of the other exercises in the class have been very helpful in working with my clients. We find that a high percentage of the physical problems that people present with have a strong emotional component. I studied other techniques in the manual therapies. I first took acupressure courses with Aminah Raheem, Ph. D., studying Process Acupressure and Clinical Acupressure. I just fell into this particular approach as I was looking for a way to learn acupressure and this was available nearby and a very high quality curriculum. The "Process" portion of this approach provides a way to rid oneself of old, damaging programming in order to develop personally and spiritually. Aminah felt that the spiritual component was an essential part of personal growth and balance. While studying at The Upledger Institute courses, I attended several special classes at the Institute itself, located in Palm Beach Gardens, FL. Until then the courses I had taken were all given in different parts of the country and Canada. One of those learning situations was when I participated as an extern in an intensive clinic. I observed a great deal of improvement in clients who were considered hopeless cases and had come to the Institute to try one more thing to return to health. There was a young person there who was slowly regaining function after ingesting e coli in a fast food hamburger, 5 years before. There was a person with a transected spinal cord due to a gunshot wound and another young person who had had intestinal problems both before and after having part of her intestines sewn to her sacrum!! They were all making progress due to the expertise and gifts of the exceptional therapists there. Upledger provides clinical symposia around the country, demonstrating the latest developments in Upledger CST. At a symposium given by Dr. Upledger himself, I met Dr. Milne CST practitioner; we struck up a friendship and, through him I learned more about Dr. Milne's approach to CST and I was intrigued. I began studying Visionary CST with the Milne Institute. I have now taken the first 3 courses and plan to take more. I love learning! As did Dr. Upledger, DO, Hugh Milne, DO developed his own style of CST developing and changing osteopathic techniques and adding from his own particular exposures and special teachers. Hugh Milne didn't try to tailor his curricula to be accepted but presented his courses with all the spiritual and intuitive practices which are in the forefront of his teachings. As with Upledger, much of his work is based on anatomy and physiology and requires the best working knowledge of anatomy possible. I have taken several other manual therapy courses which, although I am not pursuing them at present, inform my practice. Visceral Manipulation based on the awareness that viscera move thousands of times daily and need to be in an excellent working relation to the other viscera like a timepiece; problems arise when a trauma or malfunction puts the mechanism out of alignment. Consegrity is a technique for releasing the energy of trauma, managing the energy and space of a human being. Biodynamic CST works with the 3 tidal movements in the body and goes on from there. Reiki, Usui school is a wonderful way to use healing energy. I have studied some myofascial release and EFT; the latter of which I use in my practice when the occasion calls for it. I am an experienced public speaker on CST and Yoga. I speak and read French which is fun but rarely helps me with my practice. I have an exciting new Studio Located in Greenfield Center, New York. Click here for more information. I continue to study, learn, practice and love the wonderful, miraculous wellness that I bring to people. |
